How to Surface Wash Costumes Hand Wash Costume Items
Many costumes – whether for dance recitals, theatrical performances, cosplay as your favorite hero or villain, or Halloween fun – have foam, pads, or other builds that prevent them from being submerged in water (let alone put in the washing machine). So how do you wash this kind of costume if you get a stain or need to freshen it up after wearing?
For these costumes, which include fabric corsets, built-in corset tops, and items made with EVA foam or metal, cleaning them is a matter of surface washing or spot cleaning, as well as deodorizing. If you’ve gotten makeup stains on your costume, follow our guidelines for how to remove lipstick, liquid makeup and powdered makeup. For everything else, follow these steps to clean costumes and be ready to cosplay another day.
